National Youth Jazz Academy and Workshops

 

In 2011 we are delighted to announce the launch of the National Youth Jazz Academy program which will provide pre-auditioned workshop participants with the opportunity to collaborate with selected session leaders to present a pre-dinner concert at the Performing Arts Centre from 5pm to 6pm on the Monday, leading in to the Cup Eve Concert.

This will provide a unique opportunity for up to 15 young, talented musicians under the age of 21 years to be engaged in a professional rehearsal and performance program over a series of weekends in the lead up to the Jazz Festival Weekend. It is envisaged that this will provide important linkages to the National Jazz Awards, Generations in Jazz (Mt Gambier), National Jazz Camp (Sydney) and other advanced educational opportunities. 

Participants may also be eligible for Unit credits toward a Certificate IV or Advanced Diploma in Music.

Not more than 2 performers for each rhythm section instrument or 4 vocalists may be selected for participation in any given year.

The program will consist of 3 prescribed works; - 1 Blues, 1 Rhythm Changes and 1 Ballad 

 

                 PLUS

                 Up to 4 additional works as selected by session / program  leaders.

                 Feature presentation by NRAM Scholars or Jazz Ensemble

                  

Nominees for participation will be required to submit a registration form to the Program Coordinator by 9th September 2011 along with a video or audio recording of a recent performance (any), or alternatively elect to audition before a panel at  a date to be specified.

 

•·        Registered Participants are provided with a 'kit' including a selection of 'standards' and an original chart which will form the basis of Jam sessions and Concert Program for those registered and selected to play.

Rising Star

 

Wangaratta Festival of Jazz in conjunction with the National Youth Jazz Academy are excited to announce the introduction of a jazz performance venue which specifically feature young emerging jazz musicians up to 21 years of age from around Australia.

 

This year the stage will be hosted at "The Centre" in Chisholm St, along with the National Youth Jazz Academy and Workshops program.

 

Musicians and Bands interested in participating are encouraged to download the Rising Stars Registration Pack below and forward to the program coordinator by September 15th 2011.  Positions are strictly limited.  Musicians who do not gain a position this year will be held over for consideration in 2012.
